Together, building strong partnerships for a wilder future

Nature thrives when we work together. Through strong partnerships, we restore ecosystems, revive biodiversity, support nature-based economies, and create lasting impact – ensuring wilder landscapes, thriving species, human well-being, and a healthier planet for future generations.

Partner organisations, collaborators and enablers


Rewilding Europe, founded in 2011 and based in the Netherlands, is a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring wild nature across Europe by reintroducing key species, revitalizing natural processes, and promoting nature-based economies in diverse landscapes. Rewilding Sweden is part of this initiative, and we therefore maintain a close partnership.

Vindelälven-Juhttátahkka Biosphere Reserve is Europe’s largest biosphere reserve, encompassing 1.3 million hectares. The VJBR organisation is collaborating closely with Rewilding Sweden on a range of topics and initiatives. For example, work on reindeer corridors, forest restoration and nature based enterprising.

The Swedish Anglers Association (Sportfiskarna) is the Swedish national organisation representing the interests of recreational anglers in Sweden. They also work much with restoration and preservation of waters. We collaborate with the organisation on a range of initiatives, especially with their Region West, who received a grant from Rewilding Europe’s European Wildlife Comeback Fund (EWCF) for sturgeon reintroduction. Together with the western division we also run the intuitive Nordic Taiga Mussel Mission.

Vindel River Fishery Council (Vindelälvens fiskeråd) is a non-profit organization promoting fishing in the Vindel River, while also working to preserve the natural beauty and diverse fish populations of the area. The organisation provides us with local technical expertise, access to important data sources and general support for our work on river restoration and dam removal within the Vindelälven-Juhttátahkka Biosphere Reserve.

The County Administrative Boards of Norrbotten and Västerbotten are regional government agencies that implement national policies and laws in respective counties. Their main task is to coordinate state interests in areas such as environment, regional development, and civil protection. Apart from having received LOVA-grants for restoration work in rivers, we get advisory and collaborative support on our work with freshwater pearl mussel reintroduction, dam removal, forest restoration, reindeer corridors and nature-based enterprising.

Sámi Communities constitute an important collaboration partner for Rewilding Sweden for all our nature restoration work in northern Sweden. We work closely with Sámi communities in the Vindelälven–Juhttátahkka Biosphere Reserve within our Path of the Reindeer initiative.

PUSH Sweden is a youth climate organization that empowers young people to take action for a just and sustainable future through networking, trainings, and project support. The organisation is a collaboration partner within our project Future of the Forests with funding from the Swedish Inheritance Fund.

Future Minds is an educational program in sustainable development for upper secondary schools. It offers a platform where societal actors can engage with young people, share knowledge and research, provide inspiration – and at the same time future-proof their own operations. The organisation is a collaboration partner within our project Future of the Forests with funding from the Swedish Inheritance Fund.

Umeå Municipality is responsible for delivering essential public services, including social welfare, education, urban planning, environmental protection, and emergency services in the Umeå region. The organization is committed to sustainable development, aiming for social, economic, and ecological balance. Rewilding Sweden collaborate with them on forest restoration initiatives within the municipality borders.

Plockhugget promotes continuous-cover forestry to help forest owners create more resilient, biodiverse forests and supports a market for wood products from clear-cut-free methods. The organisation is a collaboration partner with Rewilding Sweden on matters concerning continuous-cover forestry methods.

Boreal Orchards and re:moss are innovative industry leaders in using mosses to accelerate ecological restoration of degraded lands and habitats. In Rewilding Swedens rewilding initiatives, remossing of barren ground can be an effective way of accelerating nature comeback.
